Product Types

Dual-Winding Pulse Transformers

Dual-winding pulse transformers provide galvanic isolation between a drive circuit and a load while faithfully transmitting fast-rising pulse waveforms. A compact EE19 dual-winding pulse transformer, for example, uses two isolated windings on a small ferrite core to couple control signals with high voltage isolation and low leakage inductance. They are widely used in power converter drive stages, where the transformer must preserve pulse amplitude, rise time and width while blocking DC and common-mode voltages.

Gate Drive Transformers

Gate drive transformers isolate and couple the pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal from a controller to the gate of a power MOSFET, IGBT or silicon carbide (SiC) device. They provide high isolation voltage, low coupling capacitance and controlled leakage inductance to prevent false triggering of the power switch under high dV/dt conditions. Gate drive transformers are essential in switch-mode power supplies, motor drives, inverters and DC-DC converters where safe, isolated switching is required.

Ethernet / LAN Transformers (10/100/1000Base-T)

Ethernet LAN transformers provide the magnetic isolation and impedance matching required by 10Base-T, 100Base-TX and 1000Base-T physical layer transceivers. They isolate the network interface from the cable, provide common-mode noise rejection and match the line impedance to the PHY, enabling reliable data transmission over twisted-pair cabling. Single-port and multi-port modules are available to support routers, switches, industrial Ethernet nodes, IP cameras and embedded networking equipment.

Telecom / T1-E1 Transformers

Telecom pulse transformers couple T1 (1.544 Mbps) and E1 (2.048 Mbps) line interfaces, providing isolation, impedance matching and lightning surge protection on digital transmission lines. They are used in PBX systems, channel banks, DSLAMs, routers and other carrier-class networking equipment, where they preserve signal integrity across long cable runs while protecting sensitive line drivers.

SCR / IGBT Triggering Transformers

Trigger transformers couple the firing pulse from a control circuit to the gate of a silicon controlled rectifier (SCR), triac or IGBT while providing electrical isolation between the control and power circuits. They are used in phase-controlled rectifiers, AC motor soft starters, solid-state relays, induction heating and industrial power control, where a sharp, isolated trigger pulse is needed to switch high-voltage or high-current power semiconductors reliably.

Typical Applications

Pulse transformers are found throughout power conversion, data communications and industrial control. Gate drive transformers support isolated MOSFET, IGBT and SiC switching in SMPS, inverters and motor drives. Ethernet LAN transformers enable 10/100/1000Base-T connectivity in networking and industrial equipment, while telecom transformers couple T1/E1 line interfaces. Trigger transformers fire SCR, triac and IGBT devices in industrial power control. Selecting the right part requires matching turns ratio, isolation voltage, and frequency response to the specific drive or data interface.

Key Selection Parameters

  • Turns ratio (1:1, 1:1.5 or 1:N) between primary and secondary windings

  • Isolation / withstand voltage (Vrms or Vdc)

  • Inductance (open circuit) and leakage inductance

  • Operating frequency range and pulse width capability

  • ET product (volt-microsecond) rating for pulse handling

  • Insertion loss and return loss (for LAN/telecom parts)

  • Package type (through-hole, SMD or surface mount module)

  • Creepage and clearance for reinforced or functional isolation

  • Application (gate drive, Ethernet, telecom or SCR/IGBT trigger)
