NPN Transistors
In an NPN transistor, a thin P-type base layer is sandwiched between two N-type regions. When a small forward bias current flows into the base, a much larger current flows from collector to emitter. NPN transistors are the default choice for low-side switching and most amplifier stages because electron mobility in silicon is superior to hole mobility, yielding faster switching speeds and higher current gain than equivalent PNP devices.
