ASICs — Application-Specific Integrated Circuits

ASIC sourcing guide: Power Management ICs (PMICs), System-on-Chip (SoC), custom and application-specific ICs. ADD Components sources ASICs across multiple brands with full traceability and anti-counterfeit verification — from automotive PMICs to data center accelerators.

ASICs — Application-Specific Integrated Circuits

Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) are custom-designed for a single purpose. Unlike general-purpose ICs — which trade off performance, power, and cost to serve broad markets — ASICs are optimized end-to-end for one job. The result: better performance per watt, smaller footprint, and lower unit cost at volume.

ADD Components does not design ASICs. What we do is source them — across every major ASIC category. From automotive PMICs to data center accelerators to industrial SoCs, our global distributor network and verified supply chain ensure that even highly specialized, single-source ASICs are available when you need them.

ASIC Categories

Power Management ICs (PMICs)

PMICs consolidate multiple power functions — voltage regulation, battery charging, power sequencing, load switching — into one IC. Instead of discrete LDOs, DC-DC converters, and supervisors scattered across a board, a PMIC delivers system-level power management in a single package.

Common applications: smartphones and tablets (Qualcomm/MediaTek PMIC companions), automotive ECUs (Infineon, NXP system-basis chips), industrial embedded systems (TI, ADI multi-rail PMICs), and wearable/IoT devices (Maxim nanoPower PMICs). ADD stocks TI and ADI PMICs with inventory depth on industrial-temperature-grade parts.

System-on-Chip (SoC)

An SoC integrates a processor core (or multiple cores), GPU, memory controller, I/O interfaces, and often specialized accelerators onto a single die. SoCs blur the line between ASIC and general-purpose — they are application-optimized, but programmable enough to serve a class of products.

ADD sources SoCs for embedded vision (NXP i.MX, TI Sitara), AI edge inference (Xilinx Zynq MPSoC, Intel Agilex SoC FPGA), automotive ADAS and infotainment, and industrial IoT gateways. Our team cross-references lifecycle status — critical for long-production-cycle industrial and automotive programs where an SoC EOL can force a costly redesign.

RF ASICs

RF ASICs integrate power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, switches, and filters into a single front-end module (FEM) or transceiver chip. They are designed for a specific frequency band and air interface — Wi-Fi 6E, 5G NR sub-6 GHz, mmWave, satellite comms, or proprietary wireless protocols.

ADD sources RF ASICs from ADI, TI, and niche RF foundry partners. We support procurement teams managing multi-source qualification for cellular infrastructure, phased-array radar, and software-defined radio programs.

Cryptocurrency ASICs

Purpose-built for SHA-256, Scrypt, or other proof-of-work hashing algorithms. Cryptocurrency ASICs deliver orders of magnitude more hash rate per watt than GPU or FPGA alternatives — but come with long lead times, single-source dependency, and supply chain risk.

ADD Components has experience sourcing crypto ASICs from Asian foundry channels. We handle supplier qualification, anti-counterfeit verification, and export compliance for mining operations in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Industrial & Automotive ASICs

Motor control ASICs, sensor interface ASICs, LED driver ASICs, and automotive system-basis chips (SBCs) combine the analog front-end, digital control logic, and communication interfaces for a specific function. These parts are often single-sourced and carry long lead times — making procurement predictability critical for production planning.

How We Source ASICs

  1. Supplier qualification — We verify every source against our authorized distributor and stockist database. No unverified channels. No grey-market shortcuts.

  2. Anti-counterfeit verification — 4-stage process: incoming inspection, visual check under microscope, X-ray for BGA/QFN packages, ESD-safe packing. 100% of ASIC shipments verified.

  3. Lifecycle risk assessment — For single-source ASICs, we check PCN (Product Change Notification) history and EOL roadmaps. If a part is approaching end-of-life, we flag it before you place the order — and suggest last-time-buy or pin-compatible alternatives.

  4. Export compliance — ASICs for aerospace, defense, and encryption applications may carry export restrictions. We handle EAR/ITAR classification and customs documentation for Eastern European and Central Asian destinations.
