Solid Tantalum Capacitors (MnO2 Cathode)

Solid tantalum capacitors use a sintered tantalum anode with a manganese dioxide (MnO2) solid electrolyte cathode. MnO2 vs. Polymer Cathode

MnO2 cathodes provide proven reliability, high temperature stability and lower cost, but exhibit higher ESR and a theoretical ignition risk under reverse bias or overvoltage. Polymer cathodes offer far lower ESR, better ripple current handling, stable capacitance with applied bias and a safer failure mode, at a modestly higher price.
